You ever wonder what Chewbacca’s middle name is? And if it’s “ingTo”, that way he’d be Chew IngTo Bacca? No? Okay.

Booker Bounce
So they’ve released the long list for the Man Booker prize for this year and I was thinking of picking up a few of them (specifically, ‘Room’ and ‘Skippy dies’). As an incentive to both read them (I never set aside enough time for reading) and as a way to be able to read some of the others, I was idly wondering whether anyone was going to (or wanted to) buy one or two...
Finally removed Boing Boing from my RSS reader.
God, I feel so alive.

My gym has a grappling area they’ve labelled ‘the choke zone’.”
“Finally,” I thought when I first saw it. “A zone within which to do all my choking.”

What? That last post? What about it? Oh, come on. You talk about your work stuff all the time - why can’t I? You do. You do. You know, like that post you did the other day. About that guy that was irritating you. It was about his cubicle or something. I don’t know. Yes, I know it was a joke. I know because I didn’t laugh. Oh, so now we’re fighting? We’re fighting now,...
I finally ended up writing a techie explanation of Shorpy Geoplaced and was asked to post it up for the Yahoo! Developer network, so it’s up there if you’re into that sort of thing.

The little prince’s reassurance to the Pilot that his dying body is only an empty shell resembles the last words of Antoine [de Saint-Exupéry]’s younger brother François: “Don’t worry. I’m all right. I can’t help it. It’s my body.”
Wikipedia: ‘The Little Prince’ by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
I know that at different times in this blog I’ve referred to myself as a fat,...
– What a great post. Funny, interesting, and it even features a ‘hooker with a heart of gold’. Approved and subscribed.

Flipboard trick
Flipboard is pretty great, but for the moment it doesn’t seem to let you arbitrarily add RSS feeds (which makes sense, I suppose, as it isn’t really supposed to be a true RSS feed reader). It does, however, let you add Twitter lists, and it does do some pretty damn fine parsing of any links, articles or photos put into those lists. Creating a list of RSS-feed-like Twitter accounts...

“I think we anthropomorphise objects and animals because on some level, as a species, we’re tired of being the only sentient beings in the universe. We’re like a lonely child making up imaginary friends because there aren’t any other children to play with.”
15 seconds after I make a dumb joke about...
Ugh.
So I'm going to Burning Man this year.
I’m not entirely sure why, to be honest. Still. I’ll be in Reno for a few days on either side. I have no idea what Reno is like / about / has. Anyone know anything that’s worth doing there or around there?

This happened on the 22nd of February.

The Polka-trance Fandango
The new neighbours are drunk, outside, and playing what I swear sounds like polka-trance. There are beats, you know, of the trance variety - that much I can definitely identify. I understand beats, I suppose, though it’s not something I look for in my 1am listening. Even less so, the accordion. Yes, the accordion. Harbinger of sea-shanties, polka dances and apparently drunken Polish trance...
tbmimsthethird asked: That Shorpy Geoplacer Thingy is fucking awesome. It would take three weeks, the entirety of Tim Leary's leftover stash of LSD, and one of the top five minds of the States to even COME UP WITH THE IDEA of accomplishing something similar with Great Britain's national photographic archive. Even then, it would just remain an idea. After the fleeting thought, that MIT professor would simply...

Shorpy, Geoplaced →
I love Shorpy.com, a site showing photographs scanned from the American National Archive, but because of my lack of American geographical knowledge I had no way of knowing where the photographs were from, really. So I made a thing. It geolocates the images based on their descriptions. It does so from their RSS feed, meaning it’s live and updates when they do, and I’ve only made it...
Today was a good day.
Boring Life Post: Wonderland
“Sorry, folks, but we might be stuck here a while. It seems a passenger has been taken ill.” Through the train window I can see her sitting on the Tube station floor and clutching her head. A Tube station guard is standing over her and her deep-green skirt spread out around her in a perfect circle. “Like she’s sitting on a lilypad,” I think, though I couldn’t...

A great move with simple, easy-to-understand explanations of the licenses themselves.
