Even if we’re just dancing in the dark
Short version: I’m a Java Web Application / Android Developer with 8 years experience developing software and I’d like to find a job anywhere in Canada. I’m smart, creative, and love what I do. Employ me?
Longer version: Hi. My name is Ryan. I need a job and I’m hoping you can help.
I work predominantly as a Java Web-Application Developer, but in the past I’ve also spent some time doing on-site consulting/training, co-founding a start-up, working as a freelance Android developer, and generally playing around with technology. I’m shortly about to move to Canada for a year, having acquired a one-year work visa. I’m looking for a job anywhere in the whole country - be it full-time, part-time, contract or freelance. My other technological interests vary widely - everything from Augmented Reality to genetic algorithms to swarming to robotics. My most recent full-time job was for Yahoo!, where I developed a Content Routing system that would build user-models and route content, all in real-time. One of the most recent pieces of Android work I was part of was developing an application for Propublica, a fantastic, Pulitzer-prize-winning news organisation. One of my most recent personal projects (though, sadly, not completed by me) was collaboratively building an Arduino-powered quadcopter.
So how could I be useful to you?
First and foremost: As a Web Application Developer. Do you need a back-end system designed? A REST interface implemented? An end-to-end payment integration platform created? A MongoDB-based messaging system deployed? I’m here for you.
Secondly: As an Android / Mobile consultant and developer. Do you need an Android application developed or a design consulted on? My business-partner and I are your guys.
Thirdly: As a good guy to have around. I’m happy, outgoing, and genuinely love what I do, and this and my varied interests feed back into my work, meaning when I’m rapidly prototyping your company’s brochure application I’ll be able to tell you why and how social media can help (or hinder) you, why you need a NoSQL database for your messaging system, and what the newest meme is really all about. I’m also worryingly tall and am great for boosting people up into trees or over walls.
Outside of technology, I also maintain a lot of other interests. I enjoy writing, tweeting bad jokes, and running. I love the outdoors and have just spent the last 6 months volunteering in Iceland for the National Conservation Agency. I love music and am trying to teach myself the guitar.
So if you have a job you think I should apply for or feel you’d like to just chat to see what I’m like, feel free to drop me an email at ryan dot bateman at gmail dot com. You can check out my LinkedIn profile here.
Thanks for your time.
