Best Of The Daily Siege: “Afternoon Sun” 1/7/2005:
“I found it in my basement darkroom, dead, near a window. I don’t know how it got in. I hadn’t been in the darkroom for months. But it had, and it had died there, alone, in the smell of chemicals and the rows of brown plastic bottles marked D76 and Selenium Toner. So I took it out into the setting summer sun, spread its wings for the last time, and took its portrait. Then I folded its wings back in, and placed it in the trash, on top of a fashion magazine that published my images.”
