It’s the worst possible situation for a guy.
You’re in the midst of using one of the office-bathroom’s urinals and you’re just thinking about, I dunno, stuff. You know. As you do at this time. Just kinda idly zoned out.
Maybe you’ll go get some more coffee after this, you think. Sure. That sounds like it’d kill a few minutes.
You vaguely hear a low flushing noise and a dim and distant part of your brain whispers, “that was the urinals, all the urinals, automatically flushing”.
And it suddenly hits you and you look down and your urinal, already half-full, is filling up even more rapidly but you’re not done and you’re not sure whether these are those, you know, smart urinals or whatever and you’ve got your dick in your hand but you can’t just stop and oh god suddenly there are so many variables in play.

Interesting question, though I’m slightly puzzled as I’m not entirely in what context it’s meant.
I have absolutely no problem with it. It’s certainly a lot more precise (and a lot less racially charged) than describing yourself as a black American, and if I wanted to be more precise and it wasn’t such a mouthful, I’d describe myself as a Caucassian South African, rather than a white South African.
The {lineage}-{nationality} description works remarkably well, to my mind, though your mileage and personal preference may vary.
So… I hope that answers your question.

What's the problem with people of Irish descent saying their Irish-American? All four of my grandparents came from Ireland when they were young and I grew up in as Irish a household as one can be. As a family we're proud of our lineage and Irish roots but celebrate being American as well. Personally, I think it's a way for Americans to honor their ancestors and if others want to make it a fun day, I see no harm and don't get offended.

Absolutely nothing. Saying you’re of Irish descent (or Irish-American) is entirely true. Saying you’re Irish isn’t. It’s only those people who cheerfully state as such, usually on one day a year when they’re drunk and dressed as a caricature of a place they’ve never been, that annoy me.

Just to clarify: it isn’t I’m offended by people in other countries that celebrate their lineage. Hell no. It’s simply that I get tired of people of other nationalities claiming that they’re “English” or “Irish” simply because it’s that country’s national day and they happen to be drunk and dressed as a caricature of that nation.
If you’re of English or Irish descent, that’s awesome - celebrate that. Dress up in green and drink Guiness and all that jazz.
But don’t claim to be “Irish”. You’re belittling a nation, much as I would if I got drunk on July 4th, swaddled myself in the American flag and told everyone I was American simply because my great-grandfather was.

Someone burnt their toast in the canteen. The fire-alarm sounds and we all find ourselves trudging out to the car-park. “Health and Safety.”
I get reprimanded for taking my coffee out with me. I’m not on the staff list to be ticked off as safe. I ask whether that means I can go back in. No-one answers.
Everyone seems just a little happier to be outside. People wander off to try to touch some sheep in the field next to the car park. They can’t quite reach through the high, barbed-wire fence. They are eventually herded back by those office staff who were once, in the distant past, appointed as Fire Wardens, and now suddenly find themselves flush with power.
We stand. We wait.
Eventually, the Fire Wardens having ticked everyone off, we are all lead slowly back into the office block.
The Fire Wardens’ high-visibility jackets flash intermittently in the sunshine.
I think about Judas goats.
