Shorpy, Geoplaced
I love Shorpy.com, a site showing photographs scanned from the American National Archive, but because of my lack of American geographical knowledge I had no way of knowing where the photographs were from, really.
So I made a thing.
It geolocates the images based on their descriptions. It does so from their RSS feed, meaning it’s live and updates when they do, and I’ve only made it public with their express permission.
All in all, I think it’s pretty neat. At some point I’ll be writing on post of my rarely-updated SRSBLOG (for SRS BLOGGING) explaining bits and pieces of it, but for the moment I think it’s just pretty cool.
(Please be patient and give it a second to load. My host is not fast.)
